Secondary 3 was a wake-up call for me as I was told by one of my school teachers that a good score for Mathematics will determine my pathway after N-levels. So, I decided to seek help for the subject and fortunately enough, I chanced upon The Annexe Project and Alvin.

Throughout my journey at The Annexe Project, my tutor Alvin, has always been a great motivator and believer in his students’ potential to achieve the best! His teaching skills are superior and sets him apart from the other tutors that I ever had. Alvin would ensure that his explanation is clear and that I will be able to understand each step. After spending almost one and a half year in my Junior College feeling helpless in Mathematics, I finally decided to join Alvin’s J2 H2 Math class tuition. I did not have much faith that I was going to get anything higher than a “B” for H2 Mathematics in A levels but knowing that I can count on Alvin who is always ready to provide free consultations after tuition class to clear my doubts in certain concepts, I pressed on and jumped from a “S” to an “A” for the A levels in just 6 months!

However, since my admission in Sec 3, the friendly tutors at The Annexe Project have always patiently guided me to have a better grasp of the subjects by teaching me the fundamentals and building a solid foundation. While learning ahead of the school may sound daunting, the tutors have made it manageable and it has certainly helped me keep up with the school. No doubt the good foundation laid out by the tutors gave me confidence to tackle the more challenging questions. During my JC years, I was under the watchful eye of Alvin, the head tutor for H2 Mathematics at The Annexe Project. Nearer to the A Levels, his lessons were focused around areas which were potentially tested and the topics were split into different case study types to better aid my preparation. Also, there were always extra consultations provided by Alvin despite his busy schedule to clear my doubts or any difficulties I faced while practicing on my own. This gave me a sense of comfort that I was not facing this difficult and arduous journey alone. Eventually, my hard work and Alvin’s guidance led me to an A for H2 Mathematics for A Levels.

Since the beginning of my JC1, I will diligently do the assignments tasked by Alvin and also do the extra questions prepared by him to challenge myself further. This helped me to develop my understanding of Mathematics and appreciate doing Mathematics on a daily basis. Nearing the A Level Period, I also attended Alvin’s ASTRO Math class to further boost my proficiency in Mathematics so that I will be more confident in doing questions during the actual exam. This is achieved by doing countless of A level standard papers selected by Alvin and then going through the answers during his consultation classes to help strengthen my understanding of the concepts.

I am proud to say that I achieved an ‘A’ grade for my A Levels and I could not have done it without Alvin’s help throughout these past 2 years. I am really thankful to Alvin for making Mathematics such an easy subject to do and learn in my JC years.

This was when my sister who was a former student of Alvin, recommended me to join The Annexe Project and to join his class. Initially I was slightly doubtful that in a span of 6 months I could achieve the A1 grade that I wanted, but decided to go ahead with it as I did not have much choice. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have made as I saw instant improvements in my grades and ultimately managed to clinch the A1 grade for Additional Mathematics in my O Levels.

With this added confidence, it was an easy decision to continue my journey with Alvin during my Junior College years. H2 Mathematics was definitely tougher than O Levels Mathematics and I did struggle in the initial few months of JC 1. Thankfully with the help of Alvin’s tutorial classes and his notes and materials given to me , it definitely made a huge impact on my grades as I saw improvements throughout the year. After following Alvin’s lesson plan diligently and with the constant support and consultations that I got from him, it allowed me to eventually clinch that much coveted ‘A’ in H2 Mathematics for A-Levels.

Lastly, I would like to give a huge shout-out to my tutor Alvin , who has been there by my side throughout the O-levels and A-levels. Alvin is a very outstanding and committed tutor who cares for his students and will always make time for them no matter what. He also goes beyond being just a tutor, as he makes meaningful connections with his students. With his interesting lessons, useful resources and constant consultations he provides for us, I am thankful that I have had him as my tutor and would not have achieved the grades I got without him.

The Annexe Project and Alvin has definitely made a huge impact on my school days, as not only did it help me achieve my goals but it gave me a memorable and meaningful experience I will not forget. I eventually scored an A that year for both my E Math and A Math for the N levels! This not only gave me the confidence to continue with O-Levels the following year, it also provided me a strong foundation that eventually got me an A for both my E Math and A Math for the O levels as well!

Secondary 5 was definitely a struggle for me but the stress level definitely reduced thanks to Alvin’s effective ways of teaching. He believes in creating a lively teaching atmosphere by cracking jokes during lessons, and that brought much joy and laughter to our class. Because he is such an approachable person, I am never afraid to reach out to him for extra consultations, ask questions on “Whatsapp” or raise my hands during his lessons to clarify concepts. This is something that I do not do often with my tutors in school. His lessons are always enjoyable and enriching as well. With his detailed explanations, unique solving methods and just-right paced lessons, I was able to get myself back on track to get that coveted A I had been dreaming of eventually!

Alvin’s willingness to go far and beyond for his students can be seen through the endless consultations he provides, even if it means staying beyond his working hours. I vividly remember the number of times I met him after lessons for consultations, sometimes even late at night, and the numerous questions that I put in front of him, which he patiently solved them without any hesitation or complain. His support and words of encouragement motivated me to push beyond my limits. He made me realised that the term “NA” shouldn’t be a barrier that stops me from believing in myself and achieving higher goals in life.

Initially, I felt that English was not that important as a subject until I did my thorough research and found out that a good score in English opens up to many course choices in Polytechnic after the N–levels. Despite doing well for my other subjects for my Preliminary Examinations, I merely achieved a grade of C5 for English and was still far off my goal. My target was to do well enough to qualify for the Polytechnic Foundation Programme, which required a minimum of B3 in English. I started to panic after this realisation, so I decided to seek help to improve my English.

Lessons with my tutor, Michelle was always engaging and enlightening. She would constantly spur me on, assuring me that I’m not too far away from what I aspire to achieve and she really gave me the confidence that I so badly needed then. Furthermore, she would constantly drill me in the more technical aspects of answering all sorts of questions and run through with me all the possible case studies with the materials that she has prepared. Although it was a last-minute decision to take up English tuition with Michelle, she never gave up on me and had complete faith in me! I think this new-found confidence in me was the last ingredient that completed the dish and eventually I scored an A2 for my N-levels English. I would have never achieved this feat within a short span of 2 months if I hadn’t agreed to this crash course with Michelle, and for this, I’m forever grateful to her. Thank you!

However, upon attending Alvin’s lessons, I realized how clear and detailed his explanations of the concepts and steps in solving the problem sums were, that I finally caught a glimpse of hope for the subject. Alvin also encouraged me to join The Astro programme for A-Math where I got to do more papers that were timed to further build my momentum and work on my time management. As I slowly see my results for the Astro papers improve, my confidence also started to soar! He was really patient to explain every single step to me clearly and he will never rush through his explanations just to send me away. After so many practice papers that I went through with Alvin, our efforts finally paid off and my grades for A-Math leaped from a F9 to an A2 for my O levels in just a short span of 6 months!

I was initially reluctant to join The Annexe Project. But Alvin’s classes were a pleasant surprise. The unique teaching method he employed was enough persuasion for me to stay on and continue lessons. Alvin’s fun personality also added an enjoyable element to his functional way of teaching, making lessons very effective. Math became much simpler to me as I was able to grasp concepts that I used to struggle with.

Alvin was extremely motivating as he explained Math problems with such clarity that I fully understood even the most challenging Math solutions. The notes he produced were of an excellent standard, and often featured extra practices covering a wide spectrum of different problem sums of varying levels of difficulty. He extends genuine care to all his students and gives us helpful advice to better ourselves. Because of Alvin’s dedication to his students, I placed my full confidence in him. Eventually, I got an A1 in A-Math for my O-Levels! Alvin, thank you so much for being an amazing tutor as I would have been unable to do this if not for your help.

But, my relationship with Math changed for the better when I started Math lessons with Alvin.

Alvin isn’t a tutor who simply goes through the Math textbook during class. He emphasises on the importance of fundamental learning as understanding key concepts in Math is crucial. If I am unable to understand a concept, he continues simplifying it for me until I fully grasp it. His greatest strength is that he never leaves his students’ side. When I was in Secondary 3, there was nothing more agonising to me than solving Math problems. But that agony disappeared whenever I had lessons with Alvin. I have seen him sacrifice his meals, off-days and even sleep so he could assist me with the complications I faced while solving Math sums. Staying at the tuition centre way past working hours became a norm, and as bad as I felt for taking up his time, he insisted that we fully understand the topic at hand. It was liberating to have no doubts about Math concepts while leaving the centre. That is an accomplishment that Alvin helped me achieve. I’m pretty sure you can’t find tutors like the ones at Annexe, anywhere else. They are not in it for the money. They are in it for us. 
In addition to helping with my results, Annexe also gave me a new friend. More than a tutor, Alvin is someone I can confide in. He offers us continual support and guidance, making the centre feel like home. Alvin is also a great role model as his passion and desire for teaching is very inspiring. He has delivered whole-heartedly, as an amazing friend and tutor, playing a pivotal role in my secondary school life. I am so glad to have placed my full trust in him as he prioritises his students before anything else.

Alvin’s Mathematics classes accommodate a small group of students per class, unlike usual classroom settings. I found that learning in a smaller class is exceptionally better as I was able to ask questions and seek clarifications from Alvin whenever a doubt arose. Because my classmates and I were so comfortable with each other, we would participate actively in class and even challenge each other to solve more math problems.

In addition, Alvin’s weekly Astro programme pushed me a step further as we attempted Math papers at our own time and Alvin guided us through the answers in class. This was extremely useful as it instilled the practice of completing Math papers under examination conditions. Soon, I got used to the three-hour-long Math papers and it gave me the confidence to tackle my school examinations. True enough, I was overjoyed to see my grades change from Ds, to C’s. Over the course of the year, I even saw Bs and As. 
Nearing the A-Levels, The Annexe Project became my second home. I would visit Annexe every day to study as it has a very conducive environment. As my tutors would also be in the centre, they were more than happy to offer assistance anytime I had to clarify the doubts I had while studying. Studying at Annexe wasn’t only effective, but memorable as well. My friends and I would study until late, laughing over our meals during breaks and helping each other with difficult problem sums.

The unwavering support from my tutors motivated me to outdo myself, and I did. Alvin’s unique and engaging method of teaching us let me enjoy Math in a way I never thought was possible. Without Alvin’s tutelage, I would not have gotten an A for H2 Math that I worked so hard for! Annexe taught me how to master Math and even gave me new friends and memories that I will remember dearly for the rest of my life. Having witnessed the amazing results I achieved with Alvin’s help, I enrolled for Junior College lessons with Annexe. As I struggle with Math, this turned out to be a wise decision because Annexe provided me with much-needed guidance during the critical months leading up to my A-levels. Although Math is not my strongest subject, Annexe’s enriching lessons allowed me to clinch a distinction in H2 Mathematics for A-levels!
What sets the Annexe Project apart from other tuition centres is the homely atmosphere of the centre. The friendly tutors, students and staff have left a lasting impression on me as friendly conversations with them comforted me during the gruelling weeks leading up to the A-levels. The snack-filled pantry also adds to my love for the centre.

Alvin is an outstanding teacher who goes beyond his job of teaching, and bonds with his students by creating memorable connections with us. He also makes his lessons interesting and easy-to-understand by sharing great study tips and resourceful shortcuts.

The Annexe Project has helped me tremendously during my school days, and I’m certain that I definitely wouldn’t have achieved my As if it were not for Alvin’s constant help and guidance. To whoever is thinking of joining the Annexe Project, my advice is: hesitate no further, you definitely won’t regret your decision!

The environment is very homely and inviting as there is always food in the pantry, and drinks in the fridge for students to snack on in between lessons. Occasionally, the tutors also reward students with delicious treats as a reward for our hard work.

I fondly reminisce the times I had lessons at Annexe because there was no such thing as a tiresome lesson. Every lesson I had there was extremely enjoyable. Amidst all the fun, tutors also push us to better ourselves, continually ensuring that we improve progressively throughout the lessons. Plus, my classmates made the learning experience even greater as we would often help one another with difficult questions. It is safe to say that Annexe has the formula for a perfect learning environment.
Alvin’s teaching methods were integral in helping me achieve good results. Alvin’s patience with every student is truly commendable. If I am unsure about a concept, Alvin will explain the answer to me very clearly and only move ahead with the lesson if he is convinced that I am familiar with every detail of the Math sum. He is also very well-organised and illustrates clear diagrams in his extensive list of notes that let us fully understand how to solve a wide range of questions.

As a sincere tutor, Alvin prioritises his students which makes us feel assured and safe under his tutelage. I am also thankful for his constant support in other areas of my life. He not only motivates me to improve my grades during lessons, but also to improve myself. Alvin allocates times of the week to spend with his students. Sometimes, we even visit the gym together after a long day of studying at the centre.

When I first attended his lesson in Secondary 2, I could barely achieve an E8 in Additional Mathematics. I had a promotional exam in school which would decide if I was capable of taking A-Math for my O-levels. With just one week of intensive lessons with Alvin, I managed to get an A1 for it! It was unbelievable and gave me an immediate boost of confidence in Math. Over the years, Alvin continued to push me to greater heights.

I was slowly losing confidence in myself and I was beginning to accept that I would never do well at Math.

My classmates introduced Alvin to me in my second year at Junior College and I am really thankful that they did because joining Annexe was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Alvin was very patient and approachable, right from the start. He helped me identify my academic weaknesses and always simplified complex explanations. This was very useful leading up to the A-levels as it gave me the practice and momentum I needed for a 3-hour Math paper. With Alvin’s help and constant motivation, I improved tremendously and managed to jump 4 grades within 9 months for A-levels! But, that was definitely not the case as Annexe has a very friendly and homely environment. To me, Annexe is not just a place of study but it’s an environment where you can have fun while learning.

All through my Secondary 3 and 4 years, I never once felt like going to Annexe was a chore. Alvin was always there for me whenever I needed help with tough Math sums. He gave me constant guidance and even went the extra mile to schedule consultations with me. Alvin’s expertise on the subject allowed me to learn something new every lesson! Thanks to Alvin’s constant encouragement and his clarity in teaching style, I’ve maintained a strong A throughtout my entire Secondary 4 journey which is something I would have never have dreamed of.

I signed up for an A Math class taught by Alvin, and boy, was I in for a fun and exciting journey. He was really special. His explanation of math problems was done with wonderful clarity, as each and every one of us could understand his solutions effortlessly. Alvin also took a very innovative approach to teaching us Math with his uniquely invented methods of solving Math problems. He instilled in us a confidence in his solving methods which were not only effective, but also engaging, helping us to better remember these methods.
I remember fondly the times when Alvin would stay back beyond his working hours just to help us to understand the concepts and to ensure that we were able to fully grasp them. His constant encouragements and unwavering belief in me also renewed a hope in me for the subject and a confidence not from my own abilities in math, but from a faith in their teaching and guidance.

The Annexe Project is definitely not your typical tuition centre. Even though I woke up late and started to put in more effort in striving to achieve an A grade very near to the A levels, Alvin’s note of encouragement to me prior to the exam carrying the message ‘Make Today Count’ really gave me that surge of motivation to push through that very last lap despite the odds and dare to believe in myself once again, to give my best in the limited time I had left.

For instance, he has never shied away from opening the tuition centre on public holidays. Going beyond the call of duty is second nature to him, and this quality has inspired me.
Alvin has always encouraged friendly competition between his students. We have been following a system where we would spar and motivate each other. Transparency and telling it like it is are stellar qualities that have influenced me greatly. Alvin is more than a tutor to me – he is a trusted friend.

He is a role model in terms of both character and achievements. Alvin has cultivated mental strength in me to face challenges and adversities, as well as to overcome my setbacks. He has also made work look like play – he made me enjoy what I was doing for two years in Junior College, despite my initial inhibitions. Alvin has always challenged me to keep doing better in Math.

My success in A Level Math is by no small measure due to Alvin’s coaching, guidance, and encouragement. I feel that I have grown in terms of my resolve and mental strength, which are great assets.

Something my other JC teachers, despite their years of experience, had failed to do. In addition, lessons were never boring with Alvin’s unique style of humour and classic quotes, which made me look forward to lessons. Soon, I got more confident with each chapter till a point where I realised that scoring for the A-levels was definitely possible for me!

However, the thing that really sets Alvin apart is his willingness to go the extra mile for students. Few people actually know that Alvin does not have his meals on time. He literally refuses to eat until his classes are over and all his students are cleared of their doubts. The fact that he volunteered to coach me till the wee hours of the night are moments that I still hold dearly till this day. Simply speaking, he is like an older brother that I never had. These are things which few tutors will do for their students and it’s precisely because of these attributes which, in his own words, make him awesome.

The moment I entered the classroom, I was greeted with a warm smile by Alvin. That gesture alone sets him apart from many educators I’ve known and heard of. Alvin’s method of teaching is uniquely different. He approaches every student amicably, clarifying their questions and doubts with confidence and occasionally adds in the lamest jokes you’ve heard of! Initially, my grade for H2 Mathematics was just a cut-off B. Under Alvin’s guidance, my grade improved to a high A! Alvin is more than just a teacher, he is a mentor and friend as well.

In my opinion, The Annexe Project is a tuition centre which every student should attend. With ample resources and awesome teachers, students are able to improve their grades and achieve their highest potential! Every teacher in Annexe Project is knowledgeable, thoughtful and is more than willing to go the extra mile to help their students. Their love and undying passion in educating the young and aspiring is something that I, as a graduate from Annexe Project, respect a great deal.

Michelle also goes an extra mile to help us improve our English. She even collates lists of possible questions that might come up for the O-level. With all that preparation and her belief in me. I tried my utmost best and finally succeeded. I would like to express my sincere thanks to The Annexe Project and of course, Michell for helping me to clinch the ‘A’ grade which I once thought was unattainable.

I really love studying with Michelle because the way she teaches me is really methodical and clear. The things she taught me are really useful for the AEIS exam. I really thank Michelle because she helped me make my dream of studying in a government school come true and I have no regrets on my learning journey in Singapore!

Michelle really helped me a lot with vocabulary. She taught me which words and expressions were important and gave me some exercises so that I could revise what I had learnt. This gave me a lot of confidence. After I did all of Michelle’s exercises, I could remember new vocabulary a lot better. Compared with studying for the AEIS on your own, studying with Michelle is my preference. At the tuition center, not only can you get new knowledge, but you can also get important study tips from Michelle. I really recommend having Michelle as a tutor!
