I joined The Annexe Project in 2017 quite late into the year when I was in Secondary 4. At this stage, there was only about 6 months left to O Levels and I was not yet achieving the Maths grade that I wanted. This was when my sister who was a former student of Alvin, recommended me to join The Annexe Project and to join his class. Initially I was slightly doubtful that in a span of 6 months I could achieve the A1 grade that I wanted, but decided to go ahead with it as I did not have much choice. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have made as I saw instant improvements in my grades and ultimately managed to clinch the A1 grade for Additional Mathematics in my O Levels.

With this added confidence, it was an easy decision to continue my journey with Alvin during my Junior College years. H2 Mathematics was definitely tougher than O Levels Mathematics and I did struggle in the initial few months of JC 1. Thankfully with the help of Alvin’s tutorial classes and his notes and materials given to me , it definitely made a huge impact on my grades as I saw improvements throughout the year. After following Alvin’s lesson plan diligently and with the constant support and consultations that I got from him, it allowed me to eventually clinch that much coveted ‘A’ in H2 Mathematics for A-Levels.

Lastly, I would like to give a huge shout-out to my tutor Alvin , who has been there by my side throughout the O-levels and A-levels. Alvin is a very outstanding and committed tutor who cares for his students and will always make time for them no matter what. He also goes beyond being just a tutor, as he makes meaningful connections with his students. With his interesting lessons, useful resources and constant consultations he provides for us, I am thankful that I have had him as my tutor and would not have achieved the grades I got without him.

Despite hailing from an environment that’s been characteristically strong in Math, I’ve never enjoyed or did particularly well for the subject- coming into JC, H2 Math was probably my most dreaded subject to undertake. Being swamped with numerous CCA commitments whilst attempting to adapt to the new rigour of JC, I didn’t have time to secure a strong foundation in the subject and landed multiple S/Us in J1. It was pretty disheartening as I couldn’t even imagine passing and what more getting an A for H2 math, something that almost all my peers were aiming for, and I started to lose hope for myself as I started to believe that the challenge of catching up was an insurmountable one.

Yet in the face of all my failures, Alvin never gave up on me or anyone in the class- he actively chooses to see the best in his students and focuses on bringing out the best in us. His teaching method is effective and complementary on dual levels- firstly, he has the hard skills that make a good teacher i.e the ability to explain questions clearly and articulately without losing patience, a wide pool of resources and strategised questions for us to tackle and meticulously scheduled revision papers and worksheets to hone our competence in the subject.

Unlike many other tutors, Alvin has never rushed through the explanation of a question in the interest of time and has consistently encouraged us to clear our doubts by booking one-on-one consultation slots with him. But beyond this, I feel that what differentiates Alvin from most other tutors would be his genuity and true passion for teaching which provides an additional facet of emotional support for his students, which I personally feel is extremely important for any student to succeed as it helps to build our confidence in our subjects and in ourselves. He understands the struggles that JC students go through and tries his best to teach in a way that’s the least stressful for us; he never fails to offer a kind word which I think just goes to show how much he cares about our holistic wellbeing and not just helping us get better at math. I would definitely attribute my experience here as a main factor that helped me to get an A for H2 Math and would certainly recommend this place to any juniors who are looking for a tutor and a safe space!

I’ve been a student of Alvin for 3 years and he has helped me through the O-Levels and A-Levels Mathematics. He is an awesome teacher and is approachable when I have doubts on certain math concepts. I was taught by Alvin in my Junior College years and ended up attaining an A for my H2 Mathematics in

Ever since being under Alvin’s tutelage, I found myself steadily improving and becoming more confident in my ability to do consistently for the subject. Alvin always makes sure we are able to grasp each new topic thoroughly, and personally compiles case studies so that we are exposed to common question types. His lessons are engaging and concise, and the weekly tests as well as topical revisions leading up to exams are especially helpful. Even though my class was rather quiet and didn't participate as actively, Alvin always encouraged participation and made sure that everyone was on the same level of understanding, and it really demonstrates his dedication and desire for everyone to improve. Through Alvin’s teaching I actually grew more fond of the subject and enjoyed the process of learning and mastering new topics.

Despite having an extremely busy schedule, Alvin would always try to squeeze in slots for us to consult him, and I truly respect his dedication to help his students no matter how tired he is or how late the consultations run until, especially nearing the A Levels period.

To me The Annexe Project is more like a home than a tuition centre. I got to know about Alvin through my friend Cho Wie. He was always telling me about how Alvin always made his lessons interesting and engaging, so I decided to take up tuition classes for H2 Mathematics with Alvin to get a head start in my JC curriculum.

Since the beginning of my JC1, I will diligently do the assignments tasked by Alvin and also do the extra questions prepared by him to challenge myself further. This helped me to develop my understanding of Mathematics and appreciate doing Mathematics on a daily basis. Nearing the A Level Period, I also attended Alvin’s extra Mathematics classes to further boost my proficiency in Mathematics so that I will be more confident in doing questions during the actual exam. This is achieved by doing countless of A level standard papers selected by Alvin and then going through the answers during his consultation classes to help strengthen my understanding of the concepts.

I am proud to say that I achieved an 'A' grade for my A Levels and I could not have done it without Alvin's help throughout these past 2 years. I am really thankful to Alvin for making Mathematics such an easy subject to do and learn in my JC years.

Family. That is what The Annexe Project means to me. My elder sister had introduced this place to me and since then, I have attended classes with The Annexe Project throughout my Secondary and Junior College school days.

I fondly reminisce the times I had lessons at Annexe because there was no such thing as a tiresome lesson. Alvin’s teaching methods were integral in helping me achieve good results. Alvin’s patience with every student is truly commendable. If I am unsure about a concept, Alvin will explain the answer to me very clearly and only move ahead with the lesson if he is convinced that I am familiar with every detail of the Math sum. He is also very well-organised and illustrates clear diagrams in his extensive list of notes that let us fully understand how to solve a wide range of questions.

As a sincere tutor, Alvin prioritises his students which makes us feel assured and safe under his tutelage. I am also thankful for his constant support in other areas of my life. He not only motivates me to improve my grades during lessons, but also to improve myself.

When I first attended his lesson in Secondary 2, I could barely achieve an E8 in Additional Mathematics. I had a promotional exam in school which would decide if I was capable of taking A-Math for my O-levels. With just one week of intensive lessons with Alvin, I managed to get an A1 for it! I love Alvin’s teaching methods and the way he brings across a concept in a simple and easy to understand manner, making me more interested in Mathematics. Nearer to the A Levels, his lessons were focused around areas which were potentially tested and the topics were split into different case study types to better aid my preparation. Also, there were always extra consultations provided by Alvin despite his busy schedule to clear my doubts or any difficulties I faced while practicing on my own. This gave me a sense of comfort that I was not facing this difficult and arduous journey alone. Eventually, my hard work and Alvin’s guidance led me to an A for H2 Mathematics for A Levels.

My success in A Level Mathematics is by no small measure due to Alvin’s coaching, guidance, and encouragement. I feel that I have grown in terms of my resolve and mental strength, which are great assets. I eventually jumped from a U to an A after attending Alvin’s math tuition class for two years!

It's not uncommon for ex-students to praise and thank their tutors after graduating. However, there are some tutors who deserve more than just praise. Alvin is one of them.

Joining The Annexe Project in 2014 was one of the best decisions I've ever made. My elder brother recommended it to me when I was extremely demoralised due to my deteriorating Math results. But, my relationship with Math changed for the better when I started Math lessons with Alvin.

Alvin isn't a tutor who simply goes through the Math textbook during class. He emphasises on the importance of fundamental learning as understanding key concepts in Math is crucial. If I am unable to understand a concept, he continues simplifying it for me until I fully grasp it. His greatest strength is that he never leaves his students’ side. When I was in Secondary 3, there was nothing more agonising to me than solving Math problems. But that agony disappeared whenever I had lessons with Alvin. I have seen him sacrifice his meals, off-days and even sleep so he could assist me with the complications I faced while solving Math sums. Staying at the tuition centre way past working hours became a norm, and as bad as I felt for taking up his time, he insisted that we fully understand the topic at hand. It was liberating to have no doubts about Math concepts while leaving the centre. That is an accomplishment that Alvin helped me achieve. I’m pretty sure you can’t find tutors like the ones at Annexe, anywhere else. They are not in it for the money. They are in it for us.

In addition to helping with my results, Annexe also gave me a new friend. More than a tutor, Alvin is someone I can confide in. He offers us continual support and guidance, making the centre feel like home. Alvin is also a great role model as his passion and desire for teaching is very inspiring. He has delivered whole-heartedly, as an amazing friend and tutor, playing a pivotal role in my secondary school life. I am so glad to have placed my full trust in him as he prioritises his students before anything else.

Eventually, I scored A1s for both my Elementary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in the O Levels and A for my H2 Mathematics in the A Levels, all thanks to Alvin and The Annexe Project! Thank you for helping us unleash the potential we didn’t know we had. Cheers!

Alvin’s method of teaching is uniquely different. He approaches every student amicably, clarifying their questions and doubts with confidence and occasionally adds in the lamest jokes you’ve heard of! Initially, my grade for H2 Mathematics was just a cut-off B. Under Alvin’s guidance, my grade improved to a high A! Alvin is more than just a teacher, he is a mentor and friend as well.

Initially, I was struggling with Mathematics in Junior College as i did not take Additional Mathematics in Secondary School. However, Mr Alvin constantly assured me and gave me confidence in my ability to do well in H2 Mathematics and in the end, I managed to improve my grades in H2 Mathematics from a U to an A in A-Levels!

Lessons with Mr Alvin are extremely well planned and really makes you master whatever you are learning quick. The questions that Mr Alvin selects and goes through during lessons all serve a purpose to make us fully understand the topic. If you feel like you are lacking behind or if you do not understand a certain concept, Mr Alvin will meticulously explain it to you and willingly spend time off his schedule to assist you.

Mr Alvin is one of the most genuine people I know. He knew of my struggles in understanding Additional Mathematics concepts and guided me through many consultations and gave me extra questions to practise them on my own. He was always happy to answer any of my questions too! He is also a very caring and wise person and would have your back on any situation even if you are just his student.

I was constantly failing H2 Mathematics in my first year of Junior College as my foundational knowledge of Math was weak. Because I was struggling with it, I didn’t practice much Math either. Having failed the subject numerous times, I was slowly losing confidence in myself and I was beginning to accept that I would never do well at Math. My classmates introduced Alvin to me in my second year at Junior College and I am really thankful that they did because joining The Annexe Project was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Alvin was very patient and approachable, right from the start. He helped me identify my academic weaknesses and always simplified complex explanations. Before joining The Annexe Project in 2018, I used to score poorly for Additional Mathematics. It was all the more disappointing because I was never able to score more than a B4. At that point, I could not even imagine myself getting an A.

My parents signed me up for Alvin’s Additional Math tuition class but since I dreaded A-Math, I was initially reluctant to join The Annexe Project. But Alvin’s classes were a pleasant surprise. The unique teaching method he employed was enough persuasion for me to stay on and continue lessons. Alvin’s fun personality also added an enjoyable element to his functional way of teaching, making lessons very effective. Math became much simpler to me as I was able to grasp concepts that I used to struggle with.

Alvin was extremely motivating as he explained Math problems with such clarity that I fully understood even the most challenging Math solutions. The notes he produced were of an excellent standard, and often featured extra practices covering a wide spectrum of different problem sums of varying levels of difficulty. He extends genuine care to all his students and gives us helpful advice to better ourselves. Because of Alvin’s dedication to his students, I placed my full confidence in him. O Levels was definitely a struggle for me but the stress level definitely reduced thanks to Alvin’s effective ways of teaching. He believes in creating a lively teaching atmosphere by cracking jokes during lessons, and that brought much joy and laughter to our class. Because he is such an approachable person, I am never afraid to reach out to him for extra consultations, ask questions on “Whatsapp” or raise my hands during his lessons to clarify concepts. I signed up for an Additional Mathematics class taught by Alvin, and boy, was I in for a fun and exciting journey. He was really special. His explanation of math problems was done with wonderful clarity, as each and every one of us could understand his solutions effortlessly. He didn’t just present the answers in a slipshod manner with poorly drawn diagrams like some other teachers do, but instead always took the effort to draw his diagrams with utmost precision, showing how serious he took his work. I eventually got my A1 for Additional Mathematics for my O Levels. From F9 to A1 in a matter of months. I admit that it really wasn’t an easy feat for a lazy student like me, I would never be able to do it alone without the help and guidance of Alvin.

Despite my decent foundation in Mathematics, entering Upper Secondary was like a whole new world for me and Additional Mathematics was definitely one of my biggest challenges in school.

My brother and cousins recommended The Annexe Project (Alvin) to me and I decided to take it up. At first, I thought The Annexe Project would be just another tuition centre where all we do is practise papers. But, that was definitely not the case as The Annexe Project has a very friendly and homely environment. To me, The Annexe Project is not just a place of study but it’s an environment where you can have fun while learning.

All through my Secondary 3 and 4 years, I never once felt like going to The Annexe Project was a chore. Alvin was always there for me whenever I needed help with tough Math sums. He gave me constant guidance and even went the extra mile to schedule consultations with me. Alvin’s expertise on the subject allowed me to learn something new every lesson! Thanks to Alvin’s constant encouragement and his clarity in teaching style, I’ve maintained a strong A throughout my entire Secondary 4 journey which is something I would have never have dreamed of.
